A Leg Just Like Mine

I have read on here some amazing animal stories, so I will share one of mine. About a year ago, I was over in west oz for my sisters wedding. We were staying in this holiday unit which was up on a hill overlooking the ocean. We only stayed three days and we where the only people staying there probably because it was winter and it was very secluded.

On the first day, the local seagull community realized we were there, and they all came to see if they could get a handout. Nothing new, but on the second day only one came.

I was just starting to walk again, without the aid of crutches due to my motorcycle accident. Back to the lone gull. It had a broken left leg as well. And not only that, it was kinked out to the side a bit, from the knee down just like mine too! It had no fear of me and came right up to me.

It stayed for about an hour easy, then was off. The next day it came back and we hung out again for awhile. It was so weird the way this bird showed interest in me, and I wonder if the other gulls had told the loner, about the human with a gammy leg the same.

I was a bit miserable at the time watching the surf thinking I won't be able to surf ever again. And this little guys visit cheered me up heaps. We knew how each other felt. I can get forgetful and it made me remember I'm not the only one like this there are a lot more people worse off than I (including animals).

Be happy

Hi dylancasey;
Stories like yours remind us that we are not alone in this world, we share it with many other forms of life and some times I think the connections are closer than we realize. Obviously the bird found a kindered soul in you, makes you wonder if the bird gained as much as it gave? I also think stories such as yours confirm a higher power is at work in our lives, whatever form you believe it to be.

The intellect of animals is unreal. It would be great if someone could figure out their vocabulary and I'm talking about all creatures. The way they instinctivly go about there lives there must be some form of comunication. I have no favourites in the animal kingdom, they all have amazing qualities. I let my dogs help choose my friends these days, they do a better job then me. XD

Its so touching to read a story like this! What a wonderful experience! Animals are really intelligent: they KNOW everything you might think they don't know. Stare into their eyes and you will see... They know that you will never be alone in this world.:D
