I strongly believe that my cat up in heaven is my guardian angel. He was born in a box in my wardrobe, he was an only kitten in that litter. I always felt sorry for him because he would cry and cry as he had no other kittens to snuggle up with when his mother was gone. So I'd put him with me in my bed, but the mother cat would always drag him back to the box and walk off, leaving him all alone again. So I'd put him back in my bed again.
I became very attached to this cat. He was black, with white feet and a white nose. He was my all time favourite cat. Many years later, he got sick suddenly and I had to get him put down. I blamed myself for not taking him to the vet the day before, as it was too late to save him. I was absolutely devastated about his passing.
Soon after, I would sometimes see a cat very similar to my beloved pet, black with white paws and a white nose. I felt comforted by these sightings, as I felt it was a sign that my cat was looking out for me.
One time I got the idea that these sightings had a meaning that something significant was about to happen. I was waiting to hear back from a job I'd applied for, my first real job after graduating from university. I sighted a cat looking just like my beloved pet, and I thought: "I bet my cat is trying to tell me something!". And sure enough a day or so later I heard that I got the job.
Since then I've had other sightings prior to or coinciding with significant events. Sometimes I don't know the actual meaning. For example when I was in Paris visiting the Pere Lachaise cemetery to see Chopin's grave, I was surprised to see a black and white cat near the grave. I wondered what it meant. Maybe he was looking out for me on my first real holiday.
I've had sightings of dead black and white cats as well, unfortunately, prior to bad news. The one that stands out the most was when I saw a news story about cats being poisoned in a neighbourhood. They showed a dead black and white cat similar to my beloved pet. I thought this was a sign that something bad was about to happen to me. Sure enough, shortly afterwards I learnt that I'd missed out on the job I had been offered after owning up to a driving conviction. That was really devastating as it was the best job I've ever been offered.
In the past couple of years I haven't really had any sightings of similar looking cats, be it dead ones or live ones. Until yesterday. I was watching a random programme on tv (I don't watch a lot of tv at all) and I saw a news clip showing 2 cats, one looking just like my beloved pet. I was very surprised as I hadn't had such an experience for quite a while.
I'm now on the lookout for something good that's about to happen. In fact, I am wondering if it's a sign from up above that we are about to conceive again, after the loss of a baby one year ago. Maybe it's a combined sign from my beloved pet and my angel baby? I should soon find out. It is this sighting that prompted me to write this story.
